Anytime Now
L'appartement 22, Rabat, 2009
Anytime Now plays on the compulsions of what could be seen as a traumatised subject. Repeated actions articulate the fears and desires of tragic events condensed into a constant “nowness”. At the same time however, these actions temporarily dissociate the artist from the actual events happening in the immediate surroundings. The work follows a desire to explore diverse what if scenarios: What if there’s a car crash? What if there’s an earthquake? What if a bridge falls? What if a snake bites me? What if a rock falls on my head? The absurdity and diversity of the representations are emphasised through an insistent and repetitive manner.
